Karaoke Tips & Tricks

1: Hold the microphone close to your mouth. About an inch from your lips is good.
2: Don’t take the microphone away from your mouth whilst you’re still singing.
3: Project your voice. Imagine your voice is a colour and you’re trying to paint the far wall with it.
4: Engage with your audience. Keep your eyes open and try to make a connection with everybody.
5: Smile. We love to see those teeth!
6: Dress appropriately for the song you’re singing. The judges want to see that you’ve made an effort, but remember to also be comfortable.
7: Fill your performance with pride and passion. The best way to do this is to practice over and over so that you KNOW you have something to show. Also, think of a point in your life that charges you with emotion. Try to find a song that can tap into that emotion.
8: Choose a song that is upbeat and that will involve the audience- something with clapping, or a specific associated dance, or with a chorus that requires audience participation.
9: Use the stage. Don’t just stand in one spot. Get some movement happening up there.
