Kim's Knee High Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) Grow Guide Planting & Placement Use a 4-inch cup/pot with drainage holes or transplant into the ground. Prefers full sun (6+ hours daily); tolerates partial shade. Thrives in temperatures 60-85°F (16-29°C); drought-resistant once established. Soil & Watering Requires well-draining soil (loamy, sandy, or clay-based). Water moderately; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Fertilizing & Maintenance Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooms. Cut back stems in late fall or early spring for new growth. Growth & Propagation Grows 18-24 inches tall with pinkish-purple daisy-like flowers. Propagate by division in spring or fall or by seeds. Common Issues & Solutions Leggy growth → Needs more sunlight or pruning. Poor blooming → Ensure full sun and proper fertilization. The optimal time for planting for most of our material is in mid to late spring–past the danger of hard frost. If issues with your plants arise within the first 30 days of receipt, please email or call our office. Our knowledgeable staff will review your concerns and provide guidance and troubleshooting or a one-time replacement if necessary.
