Jesus or Christianity, (Hardcover)

"Jesus or Christianity" is a provocative and profound examination of the historical and spiritual disconnect between the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and the institutionalized practices of organized Christianity. Authored by Kirby Page, a noted leader in the Social Gospel movement, this work delves into the ethical challenges and theological shifts that have defined the church across centuries. Page meticulously analyzes how the radical simplicity and nonviolent message of Jesus have often been overshadowed by ecclesiastical dogma, political power struggles, and the pursuit of material wealth.

The book provides a critical historical survey, tracing the evolution of Christian thought from the early disciples to the modern era. It challenges readers to reflect on the core tenets of the faith, emphasizing themes of social justice, peace, and humanitarianism as the true legacy of Jesus. By contrasting the prophetic voice of the Gospel with the institutional realities of the church, Page invites a rigorous re-evaluation of what it means to follow the Christian path in a complex world. This volume remains a significant contribution to Christian ethics and religious history, offering timeless insights into the tension between spiritual ideals and human institutions.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
